I learned some of my most useful lessons by getting things wrong on my own vacations: buying the cheapest cabin, accepting a nonrefundable fare, traveling without insurance, and assuming the extras did not matter. Life—and travel—has a way of proving otherwise.

I’ve now traveled aboard ships through the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, the Mediterranean, and across the Atlantic. I’ve stayed in everything from a small balcony stateroom to a large suite. I know how dozens of seemingly small choices can change both the price and the experience.

I will ask questions, explain the practical differences, and take care of everything I can—so when your vacation begins, you can relax.
